When Dennis Sy wrote the lyrics to the song “PILIPINO AKO” many years ago, he intended for it to chronicle not just his personal journey of leaving his homeland in search of a dream, but also as a personal anthem of triumph for those like him, who played a game of odds and sacrificed immediate gratification for a chance to show the world what they’re made of. And the underlying message is one of PRIDE, as a Filipino, and as one who has faced the world with steely determination to overcome whatever obstacles fate may have conjured along the way.
Together with the music and original arrangement of Archie D, “PILIPINO AKO” was finally released to the listening public last August 25, 2011 in the form of a music video on Youtube in time for the celebration of Filipino American History Month in October.
